Third Anniversary of the Jin, Jiyan, Azadi Revolution

Three years ago, the call for “women, life, freedom” rang out from the streets and squares of Eastern Kurdistan, becoming the voice of all freedom-loving Iranian people and a global slogan. This voice rose up from the oppressed peoples, classes and women of East Kurdistan and Iran. With courage and hope, it crossed borders and became an inspiration to millions of people in Iran and around the world.

This movement originated in the cries of youth and women; who stood up against oppression and dictatorship and opened a new path for their lives. Women and youth have played and continue to play a leading and defining role in the “woman, life, freedom” movement. Women in Iran as a whole, and in East Kurdistan in particular, have faced years of discrimination, oppression and denial of their most fundamental rights, from restrictions on their clothes and personal lives to exclusion from the political and social sphere. Youth, too, face unemployment, poverty, inequality and the lack of a future. These conditions became a reason why women and youth were the first to take to the streets, raise their voice in protest, and courageously inspire Iranian society with resistance.

Today, on the third anniversary of the uprising, we see that “woman, life, freedom” has become a bridge that brings the Kurdish, Persian, Baloch, Arab and other peoples of Iran together, a connection that has surpassed geographic borders and become a universal language for justice and liberation from oppression.

This uprising of all the peoples of Iran, who have been faced with every form of oppressive injustice, is an important example for our people in Eastern Kurdistan and all political factions. The people have already shown that unity of organization and voice is a powerful and establishing force.

The Kurdistan National Congress views today not just as a commemoration of the past, but at the same time as the start of a new step. We believe that unity of women and youth, bringing the message of this revolution to the world, and defending the rights of the peoples are basic responsibilities of the continuation of this revolution.

Now more than ever, it is clear that “woman, life, freedom” is not just a slogan; it is the spark of transformation that can destroy darkness and the first step towards achieving a free and democratic society.
