Marching Against Executions in Iran – Together We Say “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî”!

A popular uprising against the Iranian regime has continued since the heinous murder of 22-year-old Kurdish woman Jîna Amini on 16 September 2022.

Seven months after this horrific killing outraged the people of East Kurdistan and throughout Iran and brought about a state of revolution, the people of the country remain defiant in the face of increasing persecution.

While Iranians across the country have taken a stand, the totalitarian regime nonetheless maintains a strong grip on power, and the success of this revolution for the democratization of Iran inevitably depends on the level of international support for the youth, intellectuals, academics, and others who bravely advocate for freedom and democracy for all peoples, including women and religious minorities.

Millions of Iranians have had enough of the brutal, theocratic, chauvinist regime, one that devotes national resources to pursuing a policy of military expansionism throughout the Middle East rather than serving the needs of Iranian people.

Today’s revolution in Iran is taking place under the slogan “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” – Kurdish for “Woman, Life, Freedom” – and months of protests resulting in hundreds of deaths and many thousands of arrests have reminded the world of the depravity and destructive nature of the Iranian regime and raised awareness of the regime’s oppression of the Kurds, which has continued without respite since the founding of the so-called Islamic Republic of Iran in 1979.

Among the most unforgettable atrocities perpetrated by the regime against the Kurdish people was the execution of five political prisoners, Shirin Alam-Hooli, Farzad Kamangar, Ali Heydarian, Farhad Vakili, and Mehdi Eslamian, on 9 May 2010.

Shirin Alam-Hooli, a 28-year-old Kurdish woman who was hanged without warning after one year and 9 months in prison, was one of the great women of East Kurdistan and Iran who introduced the philosophy of Jin, Jiyan, Azadî to the country.

On the occasion of the 13th anniversary of the deplorable murder of these great revolutionaries, the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK) and the East Kurdistan Free Women’s Society (KJAR), both Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) member organizations, will gather for a demonstration to honor them and remember all those who lost their lives fighting for freedom and democracy in Iran and to express solidarity with the political and social movements, and especially the women, who are standing strong against oppression in Iran.

You are cordially invited to participate in this event to express your solidarity with the fallen revolutionaries and those who continue their resistance today.

Date & Time: Saturday 6th May 2023, 1:00 PM

Location: The march will begin at 1:00 PM at Monument Léopold II, Place de Trône and proceed to Place de Schuman in Brussels.
