Urgent Appeal to UN Women: Halt the Execution of Sharifeh Mohammadi and Impose a Moratorium on Executions in Iran

We respectfully call on the United Nations and UN Women to urge the Islamic Republic of Iran to impose an immediate moratorium on all executions and to release human rights defender Sharifeh Mohammadi and all other political prisoners.

In recent days, the Supreme Court of Iran confirmed the death sentence of Ms. Mohammadi. This sentence was imposed following her detention on fabricated charges and grossly unfair proceedings, preceded by torture and coerced confessions. The authorities’ actions reflect a broader pattern of systematic violations of human rights, including the subjugation of women and the suppression of their freedoms.

Since the Jin Jîyan Azadî Revolution, the Iranian authorities have intensified efforts to silence women by excluding them from public life and through detention, imprisonment, and executions. We are deeply concerned that, alongside Ms. Mohammadi, two other Kurdish women, activist Warishe (Verisheh) Moradi and humanitarian aid worker Pakhshan Azizi, also face execution after being unjustly convicted of “armed rebellion against the state.”

We, the KNK Women’s Commission, condemn the death sentence imposed on Sharifeh Mohammadi. We demand that the Islamic Republic of Iran halt the use of the death penalty and release Ms. Mohammadi and all other civil and political activists imprisoned by the regime.

We oppose state terror and killings under any pretext and call on the United Nations and all global leaders and defenders of human rights to make every possible effort to save the life of Sharifeh Mohammadi and to secure the freedom and safety of all political prisoners in Iran.

A free life is the right of every person in society.
