The Kurdish National Council (KNK) acknowledges the signing of a comprehensive agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the interim government in Damascus on 29 January 2026. We regard any step that could pave the way for peace and stability in the region as significant. At the same time, we emphasize that it must be understood as a starting point that affirms the fundamental right of the Kurdish people to defend and govern themselves. The struggle to secure and guarantee Kurdish status will continue to grow, deepen, and advance across all spheres, building upon the sacrifices and efforts made to date.
Since 6 January, a global wave of resistance has emerged against the international conspiracy carried out through jihadist forces affiliated with Ahmad al-Sharaa, aimed at erasing Kurdish presence in Syria. This global objection, reflecting what can only be described as the conscience of the world, has been invaluable. It disrupted this coordinated assault against the Kurds and demonstrated clearly that the Kurdish people are not alone. We believe that this powerful expression of solidarity can and must be transformed into sustained diplomatic pressure, capable of securing the constitutional recognition and collective rights of the Kurdish people.
The agreement of 29 January has been welcomed positively by states and institutions at both regional and international levels. We view the support expressed by actors who have remained silent since January 6th as a belated but necessary step toward assuming responsibility and reclaiming their moral voices. We emphatically remind the international community of its historical, political, and ethical responsibilities toward developments in the Middle East. Any actor who remains silent in the face of repeated genocidal violence and plans against the Kurdish people will be complicit in the crimes committed.
We also salute historical solidarity of our friends, public opinions, NGOs, parties, all women and youth organizations. Their solidarity, active support and participation in defending Rojava, has empowered our activities as empowered friendship. We call again in this historical day for continuing solidarity, women liberation and free life! Their solidarity, active support, and participation in the defense of Rojava have empowered our activities and reinforced bonds of genuine friendship.
Today marks not an end, but a new beginning for the global effort to give voice to international conscience. On this 1 February, World Rojava Day, we reiterate our celebration of the revolutionary spirit of Rojava and extend our profound gratitude to every individual and group worldwide who has amplified the voice of the Kurdish people.
The struggle continues! #WorldRojavaDay #1FebruaryWorldRojavaDay
